This year will be the 4th year that the Tequila and Mezcal Fest has taken place in London. Over the past three years, it has continued to grow and attract more and more crowds. Tequila & Mezcal Fest is the creation of Eduardo Gomez who established himself in the UK drinks industry working for companies such as Corona Extra UK and Amathus Drinks. He now looks after Meximport Group Ltd which specializes in importing Mexican products into the UK, as well as running the annual Tequila & Mezcal Fest.

The first Tequila & Mezcal Fest was held at Grange Tower Bridge Hotel in September 2014. It was the first time a festival of Mexican spirits like tequila and mezcal had been organized in the UK or Europe. Many brands and producers threw their support behind this event, which was not all about shooting with lime and salt to become ‘borracho’.

Tequila & Mezcal Fest is about sipping the culture of Mexico, embracing the flavours that grow from the agave and appreciating the different terroirs represented across many types of tequila, mezcal, sotol, raicilla and bacanora. It is a true celebration of Mexico shared by producers and ambassadors who have experienced the fields of agave and Mexico to bring you closer to the spirit you enjoy.

The cuisine of Mexico is also widely experienced at the festival. You can have all kinds of variations of street food, like tacos, tortas and tamales. You will find something to your tastes that is worth savouring.

2015 saw two Tequila & Mezcal Fest celebrations, one in Liverpool at the Maritime Museum and the original in London, this time at the Old Spitalfields Market. Both events showcased many great exhibits and seminars, with people lining up outside the door to join in the agave excitement.

The third Tequila & Mezcal Fest moved to its current home at the Boiler House in the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. The festival goers experienced Folklorico Dancers, mariachis, virtual distillery tours, Mexican cuisine and bebidas. 2016 saw the biggest crowds yet at the Tequila and Mezcal Fest, and 2017, once again back at the Boiler House, will surely be even more successful. There will be a few new surprises this year, including Mexican craft beer and even Mexican wine, which is making a statement all of it’s own.

We look forward to seeing you at Tequila and Mezcal Fest 2017. As the video personifies, we invite you to ‘kiss the mezcal’ and join us in celebrating these spirits of Mexico as we would enjoy them. As Eduardo wishes you at the end of the video, salud. Buy your tickets to this year’s festival here.
