Living in the Barrio Bars is an excellent idea
If you have been to Tequila and Mezcal Fest the last couple years, you surely would’ve stepped up to the main bar to order a cocktail. That bar was put on by Ferdie Ahmed’s Barrio Bars.
Barrio Bars first opened in Angel, right in the middle of London. Originally opened as a small tequila cocktail bar with a big party atmosphere, Barrio Bars has expanded into Shoreditch, Soho and Brixton. And you can now also find unique nibbles and plates at all four locations. But this year at Tequila and Mezcal Fest, Barrio Bars will be celebrating their 10th anniversary since opening the original in Angel.
Walk into any Barrio Bar and you are immediately taken in by all the vibrant colours and playful décor. Barrio proudly use reclaimed materials and upcycled furniture to fit out each location, which are unique from each other but follow the same trend. The food menu is a favourite of Ferdie’s, which evokes the colours, vibrancy and flavours matching the interiors, which only Mexican food can offer.
You will of course find a wide selection of agave spirits like tequila and mezcal, which is a key reason Barrio Bars are looking forward to being involved with Tequila and Mezcal Fest 2017. Ferdie knows that people expect a great party with Barrio, so expect no less when you order that cocktail at the bar. Ferdie has seen growth in people exploring the great agave journey, getting to know tequila and mezcal better, loving it, and seeing the handcrafted complexity of these versatile spirits.
Ask Ferdie what his favourite way to drink tequila or mezcal and food pairing and he’ll tell you a Tommy’s margarita is his choice. This replaces triple sec with agave nectar which he says brings out the agave flavours more. He pairs this with tacos al pastor, a pork based taco, which is his favourite from Barrio Shoreditch. And as a chaser with his taco, Ferdie will sip down a smooth Herradura Tequila reposado.
